The Orange Carpet
4.12.22
Last night was ladies night as the WNBA hosted their 2022 Draft Night. The Orange Carpet was rolled out for the women to come through in their best fits, prepared to see where they would soon head off to play the game of basketball. Interviews, photos, and show-stopping moments went down on the orange carpet. Whether you’re a fan of the sport, of fashion, or of successful and inspiring women, it was a night you definitely did not want to miss.
Coverage on social was decent, but in all honesty, should have been much more for this night. Other than the WNBA Instagram, those interested should check out HighlightHER, a page connected to House of Highlights that focuses on women in sport. Sports Center did an Instagram Takeover with Destanni “Henny” Henderson, but could have done more for the feed. Not to mention, I figured League Fits would have themselves a day. They did highlight, Hailey Vanlith who had a killer outfit, but as they noted, her draft does not come til next year.
Nonetheless, the WNBA page is where you can really find everything you need to know, from who is going to play where, to who was the best dressed in the arena. We had sneakers, we had loafers, we had heels. There were suits, dresses, and everything in between. From the players, to reporters, to family and friends, everyone looked their best and left it all out on the Orange carpet.
One of my favorite WNBA hosts and basketball phenom is Brittney Elena, who crushed her Orange Carpet appearance. She wore her hair in a messy bun, light jewlery, a pastel green jacket with white trims and matching pants with silver embroidery accents. But it was Henny who really stopped the show wearing her baby blue suit, matching exclusive Yankees cap, and some contrasting Bape sneakers with yellows, pinks and blue.
On top of everyone’s amazing fits, the girls were there to figure out where they’d be playing basketball outside of college. It was Rhyne Howard from Kentucky that was drafted first overall, to head to the Atlanta Dream.
Whether you came to the Orange carpet for basketball, for outfits, or anything in between, it was a really great night for the ladies, with plenty to celebrate.
