The Party is on Instagram Live
4.13.20
Instagram Live has been getting pretty crazy since lock down. I swear every time I go on Instagram Live, no matter what time of the day it is, there is a whole line of people who are going live. Work out classes early in the morning, reality television celebrities recapping the latest episode of their show, sport chats, sneaker chats, and plenty of music and entertainment.
Athletic brands have been doing a great job with their Instagram Lives, and keeping their consumers accountable for remaining active while at home. We have seen live work out videos, live yoga classes, and plenty of substitute drills with objects you can find in your own home if you typically lean on the gym for weights and equipment.
One of my favorite chats, is Fat Joe and his sneaker chats. Fat Joe is one of the biggest sneaker heads in hip-hop, and he started by bringing John Mayer on his Live. I didn’t always know that John Mayer was a sneaker head, but I’ve grown to love him over this fact. They just had a chill conversation, compared kicks and stories of how they copped, and it was pretty dope. Obviously, PJ Tucker, sneakerhead of the NBA, joined in a later session. Every time I see Fat Joe on Live, I have to stop in and see what the chatter is about.
I remember when Smokepurpp was at a super long layover at the airport and was on Instagram Live getting kids to do stupid things. Once again, Smokepurpp teams up with Lil Pump to get kids to come on their live and be reckless. They’re asking them to drink weird contraptions, shave off their eyebrows, it is all really weird to me. These are grown men, I suppose, doing this with young kids who look up to them. If anyone is getting blocked from Instagram Live, please take it from them.
Getting kicked off of Instagram Live leads into my next topic. I’m talking Quarantine Radio. If you haven’t heard by now, you’re probably living under a rock. But Tory Lanez has been throwing the craziest Instagram Lives we’ve seen. He’s playing music, he’s being a hype man, and there are girls joining and twerking alongside the show. Tory has been suspended from Instagram Live, but since gotten his rights back. I’m not sure how he pulled this off, since there are clear rules of what is and is not allowed on a public Instagram post, but hey, the people were entertained. What I do not understand, is how Lil Boosie has not received any form of suspension. Boosie started this whole trend weeks ago, and it is getting explicit over there. I am going to go ahead and say that people just do not want any part of that, and since there are less views, no one is paying attention enough to care. Be careful though Boosie - not sure if he’d survive another day without QTD.
Finally, we have our music festivals and battles. Triller put on a TrillerFest with tons of live performances. Rappers have been calling each other out to do live battles, DJs sharing beat battles, and more. The night that Lil Jon, Usher and Ludacris dropped ‘Sex Beat,’ they all got on live together, and just reminisced about past hits. Lil Jon was DJing his favorites from everyone. They each told us super entertaining stories about how things came to life. Ludacris even hinted to us that there may be some more new music coming from our old favorite trio. Lil Jon also went head to head with T-Pain on who has the better playlist. If you missed out, the playlist is live now on Apple Music, titled “Cheat Sheet.”
With everyone being so keen on these trends, they’re due to die out soon. But if you see your favorite artist name pop up, check out their live. You may find some gems in there.
