It is a common thing to hear someone say, you can leave the streets, but they never really leave you. There are few artists in hip-hop today that can say that once they left the streets, trouble never really followed them. To some, it may make you wonder, who was this person before they became famous, and what else are they are doing besides studio time nowadays?
If there is one person in hip-hop that I can think of that I really want to learn more about where they came from and how they have accomplished what they have thus far in life, it would be Lil Baby. He was always well known in the streets of Atlanta, but gave it all up for the music industry. Baby has has a pretty clear record since. There was an incident in Paris where he was asked to pay a fine for cannabis possession, which is now legal in the US, and minimal to other issues artists in hip-hop have experienced.
What was Lil Baby into prior to his music career? How was he able to leave it all behind? Does he still go back to his old neighborhood? What does he like to do nowadays after he finishes recording in the studio? Well, all those questions should be answered soon, as Lil Baby gears up to release a documentary, Untrapped.
What we know so far about the documentary, is that we will have an understanding of Lil Baby’s life prior to music, and how rising to the top helped him understand that family is more important, and how he changed his life around from there. Baby has constantly been an advocate for criminal injustice and spreading awareness for important causes, so we are bound to learn a lot about this side of him, as well. Baby is at the top of the top right now, and he sits up there with some of his greatest friends, Young Thug, Gunna, label and team Yo Gotti, Moneybagg Yo and more. There are bound to be some good interviews from some of your other favorite artists, including these guys, as well.
The title of the documentary, Untrapped, seems to foreshadow how he is now free from the street-life that he once lived. Throw in some music moments with his QC team, and it should be a really great documentary, and new point of view of who Lil Baby really is as an artist.
The documentary was debuted over the weekend at Tribeca Film Festival, and will be available for everyone to watch August 26 on Amazon Prime.
