Limited edition SB Dunks are usually coveted, and this one is absolutely no different. Taking a clear inspiration from the holiday which some keep close to heart, is the 420 ‘Reverse Skunk.’ This year marks Nike SB’s 10th anniversary of their releasing of a 420 special sneaker. The original launch was also a High, color way named ‘Skunk.’ As you can see, this year’s version of the sneaker is a flipped color way of the OG.
The suede furry textures of the upper represent the texture of cannabis. The green and purple color ways draw attention to a commonly known type of marijuana, Purple Haze. The inserts of each shoe picture a green background with a purple skunk, looking high and silly as can be. My favorite part, the 1/420 on the side of the heel, which likely alludes to there only being 420 pairs of this sneaker made. This makes this shoe extremely limited, and explains why it is reselling for so much.
I do not partake in the festivities for 420, but I do love myself some sneakers, no matter how crazy. If you’re not a fan of the holiday, you may think these are the ugliest sneakers you’ve ever seen. However, I appreciate the inspiration and artistry that went into creating these. Also, who doesn’t love a limited edition sneaker reselling for more than ten times what you spent. I did not cop, but congrats if you did.
