NBA YoungBoy or NLE Choppa

I’m assuming no one cares about this comparison, but it has been heavy on my mind lately.

NBA Youngboy just put out a new album Still Flexin, Still Step-in, and I was very underwhelmed. Fourteen songs in thirty-eight minutes, with one feature, being with Quando Rondo. So these are just a bunch of two-minute songs, that are just plain boring. NBA Youngboy, I was expecting a lot more out of. He’s been putting out music projects since 2016, and I kind of thought the would carry the young rappers from the south - meaning the not-SoundCloud/autotune guys. His discography and hit singles are extremely inconsistent, and never stay relevant for long. He was on Complex SneakerShopping in 2018, when I think hip-hop thought he would blow-up. During the interview questions, Youngboy could hardly formulate sentences, he was just an absolute horrible speaker. I think we’re waiting to hear something great from him, but nothing is sticking, really.

Why am I comparing him to NLE Choppa? Because of their initials names? I mean, they’re both from the deep south, and I feel like they have quite similar styles in their craft. Choppa is just three years younger than Youngboy, and just started putting out music a few months ago, really. But we’ve already seen such great things. He came out hard as his intro to hip-hop, but has since showed us a softer side, in a way that is still interesting. He has hits all over the place, with people from Meek Mill, to Blueface, to Polo G and so many more. He’s finding his way quick into the space. I feel like he is just a better fit to be in this industry. More open to trying new things, better at speaking to the public. Choppa is no angel, not even close, you can tell by his name. These guys have the same style and backgrounds, but Youngboy just isn’t doing it right.

Winner: NLE Choppa
