Vetements VS Maison Margiela: Reebok Instapump Fury
Maison Margiela is a French luxury fashion house that began in 1988. Vetements is another French fashion brand, that has been making heavy waves in the industry since its launch in 2014.
It could be said that Vetements took a lot of inspiration over the years from Maison Margiela, with their oversized fitting and deconstructed garments, but it seems in this instance, that Margiela is actually following in the steps of Vetements, with their latest sneaker collaboration.
Vetements have had many collaborations with Reebok. They did numerous versions of the Instapump Fury, they did some sock-sneakers, and some chunky runners. I love the Instapump Fury. I like how the sole is separated in the middle, I like the different cut outs and shapes, but still feels like one chunky sneaker. This rendition is my favorite, because it just looks like a blank canvas taken over by a bored kid in class doodling. I love this.
Maison Margiela will be releasing their version of the Instapump Fury in September. There will be several different color ways, and their own spin on the shoe. The sole is quite different. It is all together as one, and then they added a mini heel. The toe box is just one material but with the split toe addition (not a fan). Then, they added this material above the ankle, to make the sneakers into a boot. It is interesting to me, because the Vetemonts pieces were very wearable. These ones are pushing it. I would definitely wear these, if I was trucking through the snow or rain, with this giant sole and height that will save my ankles from getting cold. But that is about it. I’m not into these, they’re doing too much for me, and that is saying a lot.
