Atlanta, or Not Atlanta?

Atlanta rapper and hip-hop star Omeretta has got the state of Georgia, and then some, in their feelings. Her trending hit single Sorry Not Sorry, calls out neighborhoods from the outskirts of Atlanta, as well as all those whom claim they are from Atalanta, but to her, are not. There have been several new verses from new artists since, and things keep getting more and more wild.

It seems to be a trend in plenty of different areas. People claim a city that everyone knows, but they may be from the outskirts of that town. Omeretta has spoke on her song time and time again, but stands in line with her messaging. Most recently, she shared a post saying “Musically the outskirts did a lot for Atlanta but they still from where they from which is not Atlanta and that’s ok.”

In the original track, Omeretta says “Clayco is not Atlanta,” which is Clayton County, where Latto reps, endlessly. She hopped on the remix to the track to say what she wanted to say, and made the hype even louder. Since then, Just Brittany and Big Jade went to-toe-to in who is Houston versus whose not Houston. The ladies came to play for sure, but Latto name dropped a big Atlanta dog in her verse, and he is crashing the party.

In Latto’s verse on the Sorry Not Sorry Official Remix, she flips Omeretta’s chorus and names drops some heavy hitters we know to claim Atlanta.

When this originally came to life, many thought that Latto was, in a way, dissing all these folks, calling then “Not Atlanta.” However, Latto was on a media press run for her latest album and was able to explain that she was using sarcasm here and says “you really don’t think these guys are Atlanta?” If you look at the lyrics with the adlibs as well, it does appear to be right that way. Ciara seemed to play along with the fun on Instagram, and it was Ludacris who said it’s time for him to respond.

Ludacris came through with a minute long verse, responding to the ladies controversial hit. Where the question would come into play, is that Luda was born in Illinois, and moved to Atlanta at the age of nine. He mentions this in his track, and goes bar for bar repping Atlanta as one of the greatest cities around. He shouts out the town but also mentions how much money and hype that he brought to the town. Which come on, he absolutely did. Luda even did his speciality by throwing in a bit of comedy saying “Overheard this song I was shooting a movie told them stop cameras ….. heard my name and had to address this, thank you ladies i’m gone.”

It was really cool to hear Luda come on this beat and tell his Atlanta story, being one of the OGs to rep the area. There was no dissing here, just a response. The topic could certainly have gotten messy real quick with this track, but everyone took it for what it was and used it as an opportunity to rep their city or town. Is music not the greatest?
