DaBaby and Lil Wayne released a new hit single and music video, for a track titled Lonely. While the world jumped to judging and cancelling DaBaby after some insensitive comments he has made, he did he best to make up for them. However, with this new track, he reminds us about the hard times he is going through, after the passing of his brother. There is an important message to get across here, but does he take it too far with the visuals?

In November of 2020, DaBaby lost his brother to suicide. From what we have heard from DaBaby, he began realizing after the fact that his brother was struggling mentally. This music video is a tribute to mental health awareness, and gives the messaging to check on your loved ones, at the end of the video. However, if you yourself are struggling, this video may be triggering to you.

In the music video, DaBaby has his face painted as a clown, with a gun in his hand. People are running around and screaming, one of them already shot. As the police come to drop the gun, DaBaby pretends to point it at them, laughs, then puts it down. Later in the video, there is more chaos and violence. DaBaby begins shooting up the building, only to wake up as if it was a dream. Though, the video pans to the clown outfit hung up in his closet.

Overall, the video is extremely twisted and can be triggering. For a song that in the end, does have an important message. I feel like he could have taken this a different way. Lil Wayne’s verse and portion of the video was much more subtle. After all the backlash DaBaby’s been dealing with, I do not think this one will go over well.
