On Friday, Lizzo and Cardi B dropped their new single, Rumors. The song is about embracing the negative critics and being confident in your own bodies and lives. In the music video, each artist is dressed in gold, Ancient Greek style ensemble. Unfortunately, though the track was about being confident and empowering women, Lizzo is having a hard time with the negativity on social media.

In today’s age, you cannot do anything on the internet without receiving some negativity or question. You could buy your mother a car and people would ask why you waited so long, or why you did not donate it to someone more in need. Everyone has haters, but at some points, enough is enough.

While there are still so many that did take the messages from the track positively and as a helping hand to cope with their own problems, Lizzo has had enough of the negative energy, and took to her Instagram Live to address the issues. She did say that since she has been working so hard, clearly on the video and track, but as you become exhausted, the tolerance for the negativity and the patience from online trolls gets lowers. She is unfortunately crying in the bathroom with a tissue. Allegedly, she had been reading a lot of comments about body shamming, and insensitive terms used to call out the color of her skin.

Cardi stepped up, and found a fan page that had shared the post, and had her own words to say in a retweet she had shared.

“When you stand up for yourself they claim your problematic & sensitive. When you don’t they tear you apart until you crying like this. Whether you skinny, big, plastic, they going to always try to put their insecurities on you. Remember these are nerds looking at the popular table.”

Here she is confirming that no matter what you do, there will be haters. However, they are quite unworthy of feeling anything lesser of yourself. She also did do a good job educating people on why using certain terms are so negative and racist, which is what she had clearly been seeing in the comment sections that would lead Lizzo to feel upset.

On a positive note, their song did debut at #1 position of the most streamed songs released last week on Spotify Global, as well as somewhere in the Top 10 for all charts. Cardi is not backing down to anyone coming for Lizzo on this new track, and per her Twitter page, Lizzo seems to be doing her best to focus on the positive.
