Mount Rushmore of Trap Music
7.29.20
TI is a rapper from the south, an activist, an actor, father, and the host of his own podcast, ExpediTIously. In recent weeks, TI has been declaring hip-hop from Atlanta, the best that there is, unbeatable by any other city. For years, almost two decades, he has been dubbed King of the South, and King of Trap Muzik. While there are so few with the same caliber as TI, there is no room for brothers to be beefing with one another.
TI hosts his podcast to talk about different social topics and spread some information and insights into the youth. Of course, there is always room for music and special guests. Jeezy, another Atlanta claimed rapper recently joined TI for a chat on the podcast. The conversation is making headlines as TI brings up the rap beef between Jeezy and Gucci Mane. This story has a past that goes back decades. The two were best friends and brothers, but their relationship took a turn for the worse.
I have written about the Jeezy and Gucci Mane beef previously, but the two are lucky to remain alive today after their decade long fuels. Gucci believes Jeezy sent someone to rob or hurt Gucci, who ended up in jail for allegedly murdering the man set to do so. Both artists have served their time, recorded multiple diss tracks, and claimed there is no fixing of this relationship. However, this was so long ago. They have their own lives and families now. Are they over it?
TI just goes for it, saying they need to address the elephant in the room. There are three pioneers, in the Mount Rushmore of Trap Music, he claims. TI himself, Jeezy, and Gucci Mane. I would have to say, he is not wrong by any means. TI to me, started this movement of trap music. However, Gucci and Jeezy were not far at all behind him. They were all constantly recording and dumping out new music, all that you just had to rock with. Rightfully so, they have even all done songs with one another when things were cool. I grew up on all three of these guys, TI to me is top five, Gucci Mane is still making moves, and Jeezy throwbacks are just unmatchable. Trap music to me is rap music, and I would love to see these guys come together again.
It does seem like TI wants this to happen as well. He asks Jeezy, what will it take, to bring Mount Rushmore together again, in peace. While the real beef is definitely amongst Jeezy and Gucci Mane, TI claims that Gucci has been looking at him differently ever since his beef with Jeezy, as TI was more seen rocking with him. Still, TI says that when he opens up his Museum of Trap Music, Gucci Mane will be included, because otherwise, that would just be a hating move. Additionally, a truce among the three would be an extraordinary move for trap music.
Jeezy did not seem phased by the question at all. More so, intrigued. He explained that the music industry, is a business. People at Harvard still do business with people that went to Yale (though I feel like he was just trying to get smart with us since TI loves his vocabulary). Jeezy explains he thinks the three just need to have a Mafia-style-back-room conversation. Round table, no one leaves, they just hash it out. Sometimes things get messy, but usually everyone leaves with a better understanding of one another.
Jeezy shares that him and Gucci Mane did once have a sit down chat a sushi restaurant. Apparently, the conversation went really well, and he thought they were on their way to a truce. However, Gucci soon after that had to do time, and their communications went dark. I am pretty sure something else happened once he returned that lead this relationship to turn back bad again. However, it seems that there is willingness to raise the white flag, on all parties.
Gucci Mane has been going through a lot, as we have seen on Instagram. It seems the current BLM protests have been getting to him, as he calls out his label and other brands for being racist. However, he was able to apologize and is sticking with Atlantic Records. Additionally, he has been rebuilding 1017 from the ground up, and will be dropping new music with female artist Mulatto this weekend.
No matter the success of the new 1017, trap music will never exist to caliber as it did in the early 2000s, when TI, Gucci Mane and Jeezy were all rocking together and dropping hits left and right. If Gucci Mane sees this, and I am sure he will hear about it one way or another, this could be key to raising some white flags. Let’s be honest, they are all about a dollar, and this reunion would be crazy.
