Muwop

Rising female artist Mulatto dropped a song this morning that have people going absolutely insane. Some for good, and some for bad. Mulatto is an Atlanta hip-hop artist, whom won Jermaine Dupri and Queen Latifah’s reality Lifetime show, The Rap Game, back in 2016. While ultimately turning down a deal and deciding to move on as an independent artist, Mulatto finally decided to make bigger moves, singing to RCA Records earlier this year. Perhaps it is the immediate attention she has received since signing, but it seems like she has another brand on her mind.
Earlier this week, Mulatto shared several images from a photoshoot, impersonating iconic Gucci Mane moments. She reenacted the The State vs Radric Davis cover, as we'll as East Atlanta Santa and Trap House 3. The first post simply read “Muwop,” tagging Gucci Mane’s Instagram account. The second post, had half of a date “7/??/20.” Final post, something is dropping today.
Of course, there are going to be haters. Some people may not be hip to Mulatto at this point in time. Who is this new person recreating iconic moments of our history? Should a female be the one to do this? Is Gucci Mane singing her? Well, whichever way you choose to feel about this situation, Mulatto is paying the ultimate homage to Gucci Mane by supporting his previous endeavors. It clear that this was done with loving intentions, and she later goes on to post that she has a song coming out with her favorite rapper. When you think about, yes we grew up listening these infamous Gucci albums - so did she. Good for Mulatto for tapping her favorite artist to make some noise in the currently super busy female hip-hop category.
What we did not know at the time about this track, that the the two teamed up together to remake one of Gucci’s most famous songs, Freaky Gurl. The song was an instant classic that went on to have several remixes because everyone wanted a piece. Almost fifteen years later, the song is back at it again with today’s hip-hop flare.
The beat of the song instantly rings a bell as the same beat from Freaky Gurl. On the track, Mulatto holds two verses and gives the infamous chorus a female remix. To me, no new flow sounds as good as the original, but Mulatto definitely did her thing and will be making headlines with this new track.
'Cause I'm a very freaky girl (Yeah)
Get it from my mama (Yeah)
I'm not with the games
I'm with all the drama (Yeah)
Make 'em gimme brain in the front seat of the Hummer (Hummer)
Make' em gimme brain in the front seat of the Hummer (Hummer)
Gucci Mane has the third verse, brand new from any previous version of the song. I was into this verse as well, and there were a few interesting bars to pay attention to.
I'm a crazy a** n****, got a bi-polar temper
If you remember earlier this year, during the Black Lives Matter Protests, Gucci Mane went off the rails on Twitter for a hot second. Telling his haters that he hopes they die of the coronavirus, and calling his label as well as others racist, claiming he was leaving the label. Where we have seen many Gucci Mane Twitter rants in the past prior to him getting sober, I was shocked by this. We have just seen Kanye West go through a public bipolar episode, and it seems that Gucci may be making light of the situation, but we should be careful with him.
Sick and tired of Big Gucci, could retire off of Gucci
One of the brands that Gucci Mane called racist, was the luxury brand, Gucci. After Gucci took the time to apologize to all, he actually said that he has his own collection dropping with Gucci. A Gucci x Gucci Mane collaboration is something we have all wanted to see for years. While we could not be sure if this was factual or not from the tweets, it one liner may be a hint to something big.
Tried to sign Mulatto, but she was signed already (Well damn)
My biggest question of the events were, is Mulatto 1017? She just singed to RCA, but she is making a song with her “favorite rapper” who has his own label. Could something be going on? Gucci Mane announced at the beginning of this year that he was rebuilding his label. Asian Doll asked to be released from the label, and we basically are starting from scratch. Gucci signed artists Foogiano and Ola Runt to his label, but was vocally looking for two more female talents to join the crew. This line sounds like he was onto Mulatto, but just a little too late. Truthfully, I think he threw this in there to see how the song does then convince her to switch teams if she starts to blow up over this. Things could get messy pending on her current contract with RCA if something does come from this, but I am sure it would be nothing to Gucci.
Overall, the song does not beat the original, but I am definitely going to start bumping this again. I would love to see Gucci Mane find a female artist, Mulatto or someone like her, and have them really blow up while staying true to their sound. The two also recorded the video which drops today at noon.
