The Biggest Speculation

Latto

Latto is gearing up to release her sophomore album, 777, and she is doing everything the right away. An artist’s second album is usually a make or break for their career. Was the first one lucky? Can they continue to produce good music? Have they grown at all as an artist? It does not seem like Latto will have any trouble getting listens. That is, especially after her press run and official track list reveal, which left fans to speculate. And more than once.

Latto’s first single off of the new album, Big Energy, is already certified RIAA Gold, and in the Billboard Top 20 Hit Singles as of the week of March 19th. It is a catchy track with a poppy chorus, that though not completely her style, was bound to blow up, bring in a new fan base, and showcase her true versatility. The music video from late September is currently 15.9 million views - surely to sixteen soon.

Since announcing the album, Latto also dropped Wheelie last Friday, featuring 21 Savage. The video is trending over two million views already, and that is not all that Latto has the people talking about. There have been speculations that 21 Savage and Latto have been dating, for about the past two years. On a recent interview with Big Boi, Latto does confirm she has been in a two year relationship, but with whom, we did not get the answers to. In addition to her dating life, there are a few more questions that really popped from this interview.

It was revealed that Big Energy, Latto’s breakthrough hit single, will have a remix added on to the album as a bonus track, the Monday after the album releases. There was a huge push during the interview for Latto to give some hints as to who it was. Since the “big energy” Latto speaks about on the song is referring to boss women, she did give us the information that the feature is another female artist. Big Boi continued to ask “does she have a first and last name, or first name, last initial?” Which if you cannot pick up on, he was questioning if this huge feature was Cardi B. This would make sense since Cardi did include Latto in her music video for Wap, with a handful of other female hip-hop artists. Though, now many are questioning if it is actually Nicki Minaj, since the name is currently blurred out on the tracklist reveal image and does look like two full names. In addition, Latto told us to look out for the track Sunshine, which we can now see features Lil Wayne (and Childish Gambino), so it could be an album fully supported by Young Money.

Either lady would be extremely exciting to have her on her track list, but for one of the artists, Latto seems less than thrilled. During her interview, she spoke on how it is difficult being a female in hip-hop, and working with male artists who are unable to work on a strictly business level. When asked to elaborate, she suggested that one of the men on her album gave her a hard time clearing the feature, because she would not sleep with him. Latto said the feature is still on the album because of how much she loved the song, but it is clear she felt less than thrilled about her experience working with this artist. Now that the tracklist has been revealed, fans are speculating who exactly is the culprit.

Latto’s tracklist consists of thirteen songs (plus a bonus track), with six features. They consist of Lil Wayne, Childish Gambino, Lil Durk, Nardo Wick, 21 Savage, and Kodak Black. The entire interview automatically began to speculate it was Kodak Black as soon as the tracklist was revealed. She said it was not 21 Savage, and as far as we know, they’re probably dating. Lil Wayne and Childish Gambino have no business trying that with a young artist, Lil Durk I am guessing is relatively faithful to his new fiancé, Nardo Wick is probably too young and silly to try something like that, and Kodak Black is an absolute idiot, so of course it was him.

Kodak Black has previously been heard in interviews saying that he expects female artists to sleep with him or do things for him in order to get a feature or be a part of his label. This allegedly also went down with Dream Doll, who was refused a feature for allegedly not sleeping with Kodak. While it does seem like he is likely to be the culprit, he did Tweet saying that it was not him, and that the folks are reaching.

There is so much to speculate here. Is 21 Savage and Latto a couple? Who is the surprise feature?! Did Kodak Black try to sleep with Latto in exchange for a feature? If there is one thing for sure, this is going to be one dope album.

Check out below for the album artwork, full track list, and Kodak’s response to being the speculated culprit. 777 the album drops this Friday.
