Tory Lanez has been in the media consistently most recently, for some unfortunate events to occur with an old friend of his. He is being accused of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot. While the law has not yet decided Tory’s innocence nor guilty verdict, there are many people whom are picking sides. This may have caused Tory to feel like a loner. But in the sense of remaining positive, let us look at the meaning of loner in a different way. Prior to the massive series of unfortunate events, Tory Lanez decided to leave his label and become an independent artist. In terms of the music, he is completely on his own. He can do what he wants and put out what he wants, one his own terms. The latest project that just dropped this morning, is entitled Loner, and it just feels right for Tory given the times.

This new project includes ten tracks and lasts for thirty-two minutes. He is not necessarily a loner on the project by means of there being no features. Swae Lee, Lil Wayne, Melii, Tyga, 42 Dugg and Rich the Kid are all featured on this project. Many have been asked what would make them want to collaborate with Tory Lanez since recent events, but it does not seem like these guys have too much to loose. Lil Wayne can do whatever he wants. Tyga really can’t, so he’ll take what he can get. Swae Lee is seemingly enjoying becoming controversial, maybe because loner life for him is not as great as Rae Sremmurd life once was. Though I love 42 Dugg deeply, I think the others just are not at a stage in their career where they will have people turn them on or off based of this move.

Jack Harlow recently dropped his debut album, which did feature the What’s Poppin Remix with Tory Lanez’s verse remaining on the project. While many artists decided to remove Tory from their projects where they could, Jack Harlow decided to keep Tory right where he was. When asked what made him make this decision in an interview, he explained that he had no room to judge this person, because he was not there in the situation. Additionally, he added that it is just about the music for him. You could say he just looking out for his own wallet, but overall where the whole situation continues to get more wish-washy, cancel culture will continue to be confused until we have the truth.

Let’s get to the music already. Tory Lanez notoriously dropped DayStar on the day that the government declared Breonna Taylor’s killer, not guilty for murder. The entire world was in an uproar, and then we hear from Tory Lanez for this first time in three plus months after the situation with Megan. This seventeen track, one hour plus album, was entirely claiming his innocence, and that Megan was lying about several accusations within the report. The people were appalled. So if you are deciding not to listen to Loner, because you are a rider for Megan and do not want to hear that again, I can assure you that this album is completely different and not about this situation. Mostly.

When Tory was signed to Interscope, he was the singing rapper. Every track he was on, he was used for his vocals and a decent amount of autotune. He was the lady killer on ever hip-hop chorus that wanted to be a good old ratchet love song. It was pretty apparent since his announcement of going independent, that he wanted to show off his different styles that he could perform. During the quarantine radio days, he told us he wanted to do a Spanish project, as well as a hip-hop project. I would definitely say that this project is much more of a hip-hop project than we have really heard before. He sings on Band A Man, but sound a lot like the Tory Lanez from 2016 on Meek Mill’s Litty. A bit more rough and raw that the typical singing we get from Tory. The rest was a lot of rapping. I do not think it is terrible, it just very different and going to take some time for people to adjust. Especially during times where his character is being questioned on top of a complete transformation in music style.

So, no shots at Megan this time, for real? Well, I think that Tory is going to do what he can to try to get rid of that whole situation. He wants his career to continue, and the only way to really do that is to continue to work for your real fans. There is one thing, that I ran into on this project, that may be taken as a subtle diss towards Megan. This would be the chorus on No Service, which is track two, featuring Swae Lee. The chorus goes:

Off top, ay, cut my last hoe off
She deserved it, had a warrant for this d***, but I served it
Yeah, I got your last text but I curved it
Plus, lil' bitch, I'm in the hills, I got no sеrvice.

Tory has made plenty of songs about different ladies he has been with. On the last project, he even mentioned having a new woman since the issues with Megan. There is no real telling that this bar is about Megan, however, it does poke fun at the situation. Tory was arrested at the scene of the crime, but he was released. Then, many questioned whether he was in jail, deported to Canada, or hiding somewhere else. So, he shares a bit of a flex that he is living comfortably in the Hollywood Hills at the moment.

The Tory Lanez and Megan Thee Stallion saga continues, but it appears that neither one of them having any plans on slowing down their career.
