Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B WAP Releasing Friday 8.7.20

I’ve been waiting for Cardi to drop some new music since quarantine has began. The world has been waiting for some new Megan Thee Stallion since she emotionally addressed being shot in the foot but who she thought was her friend. This duo? I’ve been waiting for since the beginning of time. Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion announce their new single WAP, dropping this Friday.

The artwork for the track shows the two together, intertwined by their hairstyle. They look like twins, with the same pose and aesthetic mirrored. With their tongues sticking out, seemingly unbothered, and a title like WAP, I can only assume this going to be party anthem of what is left of the summer. I hope it is, at least. But does it not sound like one of those random sounds they blurt out like ad libs in their music?

I even went as far as to look up if this was an acronym, or what is could be. By the looks of it, is seems like it is just the sound effect of when you throw or hit something. “Wap, wap!” I get it.

Definition of wap

1 : to pull or throw roughly

2 : BEAT, STRIKE

3 : to blow in gusts

So, maybe this is going to be a fighting track? Will Megan throw Tory Lanez under the bus? Word is he ended up getting deported following his arrest. Also, it seems like the world is on Megan’s side and ready to protect her at all costs. Poor Tory, he was having the summer of a lifetime up until Kylie Jenner’s pool party.

Cardi B has been in a slew of drama herself with her management team the past month or so. After management from Quality Control filed a lawsuit against Cardi and Offset for an alleged beat down in New York City, Cardi countered this to say that the security had not done their job and caused for this to happen. Just a few weeks ago, Cardi B took to Twitter to go off on the situation, announcing that she has no management. This likely means she has removed herself from Quality Control music, and will do her own thing, at least for the time being.

Interestingly enough, Megan Thee Stallion has also gotten into legal trouble with her label recently as well. Megan took the label to court after she felt that they were unlawfully holding back the release of mixtape, Suga. She ended up winning the battle and dropping the mixtape, though I think I would have held it back and made some adjustments myself. Anyways, it seems like both these ladies are ready to go to war for some female power.

Let’s not ignore the elephant in the room, though. Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion. This is a powerful female duo. Though, was Megan Thee Stallion not just kicking it with Nick Minaj last summer? We all know the bad blood runs deep with Cardi B and Nicki Minaj. They have done music together, but the world knew they did not care for each other. Then, things got ugly when shoes were thrown and people got hurt at the New York Fashion Week in 2018.

Megan Thee Stallion got Nicki Minaj on her summer anthem Hot Girl Summer. Quite frankly, I was a bit overwhelmed knowing Hot Girl Summer was already a trending topic, but nonetheless this song was bumped at parties around the nation. The two would tweet at each other and seemingly grew close. So what would Nicki Minaj think of this now?

Nicki Minaj had been quiet for quite some time, and recently has dropped a few songs, some more controversial than anything. Nicki dropped the Say So Remix with Doja Cat. This song debuted at number one, and the original remains nominated for multiple VMA Awards. However, the public got weird and cancelled Doja Cat when they found out about her racist chat rooms she used to entertain. After getting word, Nicki Minaj shared on Twitter she was not aware of what was going on, and that they asked her several times to do the verse but she was not sure if she wanted to do so or not.

Next, she did her song with Tekashi 6ix9ine. Obviously the world came to a halt. Nicki Minaj, the top female artist in hip-hop is going to make a song with the rat of the ages? Well, Nicki shared with the world that she does not need to explain herself and she can make music with whoever she wants. So, clearly Nicki did this for the bag. In which, she is not totally wrong, it obviously got millions of plays and she did just announce her pregnancy, so not a bad time to get her money up.

Nicki Minaj herself is also up for a few VMA awards for a new Latin song with Karol G. Too bad the VMAs are virtual this year, or we may have had another “Yo Miley What’s Good?” episode between the Barbz and the Stallion.

Anyways, my thinking is that Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion were never really friends. Nicki Minaj saw how much energy, hype and attention Megan brought to the table, so it made sense to collab with the hottest at the time. Similarly, I am also sure that Megan felt just as Nicki did when she got on another track with 6ix9ine. Megan can collaborate with whomever she feels, and in the end, is doing great business.

I do not think we’ll get commentary on the topic from the three, but who knows. Depending on the content of this track, Nicki Minaj has been known to drop a subtle (or not so subtle) diss here in there on her tracks. I for one, cannot wait to hear this track.
