Collegrove 2
8.5.20
The boys are back at it again. I have literally been waiting for this for the past four years. ColleGrove 2 is finally on the way. In 2016, 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne dropped their joint project ColleGrove. ColleGrove represents 2 Chainz claim to Atlanta’s College Park, mashed together with Wayne’s Hollygrove in New Orleans. Four years later, the duo are dropping the sequel they promised us so long ago.
In Lil Wayne’s early career, of course we knew him for all of his outrageous features. It was actually once common knowledge that Wayne would record so many features with artists, and expect a joint album with them. However, this seemed to always flop, until ColleGrove. Though legally the album was technically a 2 Chainz album with Lil Wayne on most of the songs, the duo shared they already had 100 other songs ready to go after dropping the project.
The album cover features 2 Chainz’s face, with Lil Wayne’s infamous face tattoos imprinted all over. It is a clear representation of the two joining forces. Not to mention that this project was absolutely legendary. From Gotta Lotta, MFN Right, and Watch Out, this is a real remarkable project in history.
Earlier this year in March, 2 Chainz went on Instagram Live sharing that he will be dropping ColleGrove 2 this year. Recent reports have stated that this upcoming Friday, the duo will be dropping their first single from the album, Money Maker. Certain pages, like @Rap on Instagram have stated the whole project is dropping, so we will have to see. But it definitely sounds like new Tunchi and 2 Chainz, which I think we can all get excited for.
Just the name Money Maker reminds me of old school hip-hop. Specifically Ludacris, but I know these two could pull of something crazy with a song like this. Earlier during quarantine, Ludacris got back with Usher and Lil Jon and put out one track, leading us on the believe there was more. Well, I need more, and I need it now. 2 Chainz is one of my favorites, and Lil Wayne absolutely was in his prime. These are two guys that have managed to change the sound of hip-hop, and also adapt to new times, year after year and onto a new generation. This new project is exactly what hip-hop needs right now.
Though it does feel like this project is four years overdue, the two have not been quiet during quarantine. Last week Lil Wayne dropped a new song Thug Life with Gudda Gudda, another artist blast from the past. This comes after the success of Wayne’s Funeral album which he dropped earlier this year, and his verse on the What’s Poppin’ Remix with Jack Harlow, DaBaby and Tory Lanez.
2 Chainz will be gearing up for his own battle tomorrow night in a Verzuz TV show off between him self and the boss, Rick Ross. I truly cannot wait to see this, two of my favorites, I have been waiting for this moment all quarantine. If I can get this battle, and the album before the weekend, it will make quarantine bearable.
