Lamar Jackson for Madden ‘21 Cover
4.21.20
Lamar Jackson is said to be the next cover athlete for Madden 2021. After coming off of his 2019 NFL MVP season, it is pretty much a no brainer. Jackson was a No. 32 first round draft pick in 2018. Now he has become the face of the Baltimore Ravens franchise, and perhaps a favorite of the league. Jackson finished off his first complete year as starting quarterback breaking records for the most rushing yards in a season by a quarterback (1,206) and leading the league with 36 touchdown passes.
Jackson will be the first player from the Baltimore Ravens to be featured on the cover of Madden since Ray Lewis in 2005. Though Madden has not officially announced or released the cover of Madden 2021, they did share a tweet which is enough confirmation for me. The Ravens official Twitter page later responded to the Tweet, commenting, “Well who else would it be?”
While Twitter is usually all fun and games, Lamar Jackson has recently been getting a bit of backlash on the social media platform. This stems from a Tweet thread with our dear, loving President, Donald Trump. Lamar Jackson had shared a video of his college roommate reacting to Jackson getting drafted to the Ravens in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Donald Trump replied to this Tweet, explaining that he loved this pick. To this, Lamar wrote back “Truzz Trump,” which sounds a lot like he is saying “Trust Trump.”
Of course, this does not go over well with a great portion of the United States. There have been issues with the President and the NFL as a whole, as well as his disregard for other minorities and people in unforgiving circumstances. Jackson said this tweet is not a political stand, he just appreciates the love. I think this Madden cover came just in time to dilute the situation that was about to be on Jackson’s hands. Still, he should delete this tweet and probably not talk about Donald Trump ever again, just to be safe.
