All Monochrome Everything

3.21.20

This is important, because a lot of people still hate on the trend. I’ll start by saying, there is a difference between a grimy groufit, and a put together monochrome look. The minimalist fashion trends are super in right now, but if you’re just going to be lazy about it, we are going to notice.

I wouldn’t recommend wearing your gym clothes and attempting to call it fashion. Those nasty gray sweatpants with an oversized gray t-shirt, is basically a cry for help - and perhaps a salad. But, those matching hoodies and joggers, bandeau and biker shorts, blazer and pants, this all works. It doesn’t have to be bummy or lazy, you can still accessorize, and spice it up and make it your own.

The meaning of monochrome isn’t necessarily just all black, or all white, or all gray. Monochrome is an execution of a photograph, picture, outfit, whatever it may be, executed in black and white or in a variety of tones of one color. So, there is room to play if we’re mixing together different tones of browns, or blues, etc. While being a minimalistic style of fashion, there can be a lot that goes into putting together an outfit as such.

Here is a breakdown of some celebs whose fashion sense I adore, rocking their own idea of monochrome outfits.

Shia Labeouf

Just an absolute fashion icon. Who else do you know whom can look like a complete bum, but absolutely fantastic, at the same time. Distressed denim, loose collared shirts, beat up old shoes, but all well-kept and good quality. Representing the “NomCore” fashion trend, and being an inspiration to Kanye West for the Yeezy Season collections, Shia does a great job making minimalistic outfits, staples in the industry.

Rihanna

An icon in more ways than one. If Rihanna drops an album, we drop everything and listen. Rihanna puts out a makeup line, suddenly I’m wearing makeup. She has her own lingerie line, but she’s always been a fashion goddess during the daytime, as well. Rihanna can pull off anything, but she’s great at showing us you can be super minimalistic, and still look absolutely fabulous. PS - Extra points when the background enhances your monochrome fit.

A$AP Rocky

The A$AP Mob started as a group of kids who were obsessed with fashion. It makes a ton of sense with Bari’s clothing line, Vlone, everyone has their own sneaker deals, collabs, etc. Self-proclaimed ‘fashion killa,’ Rocky has always been one to look at for trends. Sleek suites, oversized garments, layering, big logos, and of course, the monochrome movement.

Keyshia Ka'oir Davis

If you’re not following Keyshia and Gucci as fashion icons, you are missing out. Mrs. Davis has got to be one of my favorites. She is always in the most stunning monochrome look, jumpsuit, matching top and bottom, beautiful print, etc. Basically all my favorite pieces, but on a crazy label type of budget. An inspiring business women, wife and fashion icon.

Machine Gun Kelly

He may not be my favorite person nowadays, but I have always enjoyed seeing what MGK has to wear. So many people don’t wear certain things, because they just think they can’t pull it off. Being a punk kid in hip-hop, kind of feels like this. With his unique look and daring sense of style, MGK has made his way into a serious member of the fashion scene. He’s even walked in New York Fashion Week Runways in the past.
