Fashion at the Oscars, Compared to Objects

2.25.20

The only reason why I watch any awards show (besides BET Awards) is to see everyone’s outfits. I don’t know who most of you are, I’m only interested in a select type of music, and movies? I don’t watch movies. So I wasn’t able to keep my attention on the Oscars for long, but best believe I was all over social media looking to see what everyone was wearing. Some were cute, some were outrageous but fun, and some were down-right awful. Whether or not you or I know who these people are, I hope you are as entertained as I am writing this.

Olivia Colman in Stella McCartney

At a first glance, I think Oliva looks nice. Let’s take a deeper look. She is wearing a navy velvet dress, with side panels to give her shape. The panels are a different material, and a different blue. Next, is a random flap with a white lining. The clutch looks black to me which would be a big no-no, but it’s probably just a darker navy. She accessorized this with emerald earrings and an emerald ring. Why add green to this, I’m unclear. I’m into the large rhinestones, but I’m also unclear about those holes by the shoulder. All I can think of is one thing.

Billie Eilish in Chanel

I love Billie and her wild fashion style. This was her red carpet look, before she changed into her nauseatingly green Gucci suite. I love the lace Chanel gloves, and the jewelry that brings out the Chanel embellishments on her jacket. The outfit itself, an all-white fuzzy pant and jacket suit, glammed up with some double C emblems. She looks cute. Her hair and makeup is fabulous. Though, I am still seeing one thing.

Billy Porter in Christian Siriano

Overall, I’m super into this. It is a way to do the unexpected, defy the norms, turn heads, all while still looking classy and absolutely fabulous. An outstanding statement to be a man in this position, and be able to confidently walk down the red carpet in what looks like a suit jacket, and a full skirt. Gender fluid apparel is quickly becoming the norm for those that are interested and confident in expressing how they feel through what they wear.

Jaeger-LeCoultre & custom Nikes

I am absolutely living for this. I enjoy doing the unthinkable when it comes to what to wear. Sneakers and suites? Love it. Colored suites? Love it. All purple suit with matching hat, and gold custom Jordan 3 ‘Tinker’? Who cares about a red carpet, when you’re wearing all the color you need. Spike keeps it old-school, and keeps it funky, too. Can’t tell this guy nothing, but “nice drip.”

I’m wondering who came up with design, and who agreed to create it. This is just out there, and not in a good way. I think the top has a lot of potential to be magnificent. If the black piece under the peplum sprouted to a long, full skirt, replicating the peplums ruffles more loosely, this would be amazing. The purple skirt looks too big on her, the design is making me very dizzy, and I think belongs on its own, or with a pure white top.
