Styling the Air Max 97

9.3.20

The Air Max 97 is a classic, and comes in endless color ways. Do you remember your first impressions on sneakers? Back in, say, 2015, the Air Max 97 went through a crazy fad where everyone was wearing the silver with the tiny red details. I absolutely hated this shoe. I remember thinking, this is dad shoe (they were not cool at the time), this is ugly, everyone who wears them has no style whatsoever. Then one day, I saw this color way that was like a deep burgundy, and had 3M to it. This, in fact, was the prettiest sneaker I had ever seen. I purchased it overseas and spent just as much on shipping as I did on the sneakers because I was so obsessed. From then on, I love this sneaker.

The silhouette is nice. Not too thin or too chunky, just right. The color ways are endless, so while I normally wear black, let’s switch it up a bit. This colorway is called Camo Ridgerock Mink Brown. It has a white base, with some came details, and hints of brown with a very soft blue. I think this sneaker is so beautiful. However, with the colorway and patterns, it may be a bit tricky to match with. So, here are my top six looks to rock with this pair, whether you are dressing your kicks up or down.

In The Lab

A sweat suit set is everything to me. Especially during the chilly days of quarantine. This set is called the NikeLab Essentials, so get ready to serve looking while conquering whatever task is at hand. Even if it is just figuring out which show to watch on Netflix next. I love that the tee is cropped, and the sweats are baggy. The draw string is on the inside, so you can adjust the band without it hanging out all ugly. This light brown color goes perfect with the kicks. Oh, and if you have a height deficiency like I do, the ankles are cinched so you can show off your kicks without pulling up your pants every other step.

Cozy Boss

This sweater dress may be cozy and chill, but there are many ways you can dress it up. The gray tones go nice with the combination of the soft blues and brown. Not too catchy, but it works quite nice. Throw on some gold jewelry to enhance the prints and brown colors, and you’ll be comfy and flashy all at the same time. I would wear this to work, casual house party, really anywhere at all.

Button Up

Overalls have made their way back into fashion, but shortalls are even cuter. They are relaxed and comfortable, and can be worn in many different ways. I like this gray top under the overalls, as the color matches nicely with the sneakers and the exposed seam lines give a nice interesting touch to enhance the patten on the shoe. I would totally wear this to any day event. From a brewery, garden house, lunch, zoo, wherever your heart takes you.

Tear it Up

This sweater dress is from a brand called HERA. I actually purchased it at a tattoo shop at Fox Woods. Totally random, but it absolutely spectacular. It is a maxi sweater dress, with unique knitting and designs in the front. The back has a strip going all the way down of distressed knitting. So, I typically wear a tank dress underneath this. Of course, biker shorts and a bandeau would work, or anything you are comfortable with. I love the color pairing, and if you are going to make this much of a fashion statement with this sweater dress, you better have the shoes to match. Add some jewelry and a boxy purse for the look and you are set for your evening adventures.

Camo Class

Dressing up an Air Max 97 may sound difficult. Though, I think you just need to find the right colors and materials. This sneaker has some 3M on it, so I really like the pairing with this silk dress. The blush color goes super well with the lights tones on the sneakers. The laces themselves are a cream color, which goes great with the cardigan sweater I’ve added. It is a nicely made sweater, but dims down the fancy a bit for the dress, making this an overall super cohesive look. I would wear this to a dinner or a formal party that lets sneakers it. Also, a super cute winery look I may just have to add to my list.

Couldn’t Get Michael Kors If - Oh Wait

My dreams of being a streetwear fashion designer continue. I have become super excited about reconstruction fashion design. Saving materials, finding usage for old things, and of course, sustainability. I made these basketball shorts and tube top from an old Michael Kors purse, and a cool looking shower curtain. I love the look of a loose basketball short and a fitted bandeau. It is bad ass, looks incredible, you can only pull it off if you wear your confidence on your sleeve. I definitely do not do that all the time, but fashion is where I do show it. You can rock it. Just believe in yourself. I love these colors with these kicks. And of course, bling it out a bit more to enhance the gold emblems from the bag.
