2023 BET Awards

The BET Awards is always a special night for hip-hop. This year was certainly no different, as the 2023 BET Awards was aired last night, and did not disappoint for a second. There was really entertainment through and through, from top-tier performances, comical acceptance speeches, and a whole lot that went down in the crowd.

We of course watch the BET Awards because of our love for music, hip-hop, specifically. This year, BET acknowledged the 50th Anniversary of hip-hop, and did a really great job merging new school and old-school hip-hop performances throughout the night. Doechii shared the stage with Trillville, as she performs her new single that samples the OGs. Trick Daddy, Trina, Jeezy and T.I. performed, as well as artists like Latto, Lola Brooke, Lil Uzi Vert and Migos.

Latto had a great performance, prior to accepting her award for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist. When hearing her name called as the winner, she tried to ditch her heels to sprint on stage, jumping up and down, however only got to one. As she stood on stage with one heel, she turned around to give her gum to her sister to hold, as she made her super enthusiastic speech. She made a point to shout out the other women in the category, as well as others who weren’t there this year, but she hopes to see there in the future. This night overall was a massive win for the ladies in hip-hop.

It was also a memorable and special night for the Migos (Quavo and Offset). The two took the stage together for the first time since loosing Takeoff, and performed an incredible tribute. They stood rhyming back and forth at one another, appearing to be in unison. Cardi B shared Instagram stories watching from home, screaming about how proud she was of the two of them, and how she could cry.

Others that may have left the show crying? Well, videos have quickly swarmed the internet of JT throwing her phone at Lil Uzi Vert, calling him a groupie and claiming “she is done.” Rumors suggest that being because Uzi was flirting with Ice Spice, who was name dropped in a song he performed on stage. However, we are realistic on this blog so I’m going to say, JT has heard that bar before, and there is likely a lot more to the story.

The crowd was not all bad, though. Sexyy Red and Boosie were both seen dancing and loving life when the arena played their songs. Now this should be a collab for the near future because these two brought the whole energy for the night.

Of course, this is an awards show. So, below is a full list of the nominees and winners per category. Did your favorite artist take home the W?!
