A Boogie Vs Artist

12.6.22

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie Me Vs Myself 12.9.22

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s last full length album was in 2020, and it is finally time for more. To celebrate A Boogie’s twenty-seventh birthday, he dropped the tracklist for the project, and an animated music video for new single from the project, Water (Drowning PT 2). The features on this project, as well as some of the meanings of these terms, have a lot to say.

A Boogie’s real name is Artist. Something that you’ll notice from his discography is that each project title, lends itself to A Boogie’s names. Artist, The Bigger Artist, International Artist, Hoodie SZN, Artist 2.0, B4 AVA, Me Vs. Myself. These project names highlight the representation of A Boogie’s persona from each of these bodies of work. B4 AVA stands for Before A Boogie Vs Artist. This was an EP released one year ago, in anticipation for the current album to release. It sounds like this could be a case of battling different feelings, or personalities.

Looking at A Boogie’s Instagram, he has updated his handle from @ArtistHBTL, to @ABoogieVsArtist. This is a bit like TI Vs. TIP. A Boogie is highlighting two different personalities throughout his music, and lending them to his musical alter-ego. He also brings us back 2017 when releasing massive hit single, Drowning. Drowning has 78,000,000 views on YouTube and is a massive record featuring Kodak Black. Today, A Boogie dropped Water (Drowning Part 2), also featuring Kodak Black on the track. The song does not necessarily sound the same, or like a sequel, but the context and vibe is similar.

Something I find so interesting about A Boogie is his ability to sing or perform with anyone. They could be singers, rappers or anything in between. He is very much a signer, with versatility to work in the more rap scene. This is also very apparent on the track list recently shared.

The upcoming album is just over one hour with twenty-two songs. Features include Roddy Ricch, H.E.R, Lil Durk, Don Q, G Herbo and Tory Lanez. Which track are you most excited to hear from A Boogie on this upcoming album?
