Eminem’s Certified Singles Status

3.9.22

Eminem, Most Certified Singles In RIAA Gold & Platinum Program History Recorded on 3.8.22

As we strive to give artists their flowers while they are still here more often, Eminem has overnight received many. Eminem has officially become the most certified artist for singles in RIAA Gold & Platinum, in the history of the program. Not to mention, a handful of diamond records.

What makes Diamond record, and how long has the RIAA been counting? Digital sales have been counted since 2004, and streams for streaming services like Spotify, since 2013. A Gold Record is for 500,000 units, Platinum is 1,000,000. A Multi-Platinum Award is 2,000,000, and Diamond, a whopping 10,000,000+ units sold.

Eminem just earned his third Diamond Album for Curtain Call, and has three Diamond singles, giving him a total of six diamond certifications throughout his career. On top of this, 73.5 million new certifications bring Eminem to a total of 227.5 million certifications in the US, making him the number one most awarded musician for singles in the RIAA’s history.

Since streaming services began immensely changing the game when it comes to selling digital units, it has been more difficult for artists to reach these numbers. To be exact, 150 on-demand audio and/or video streams will count as 1 Unit for certification purposes. Now that is a LOT of streams to go diamond nowadays.

Eminem is also coming off of a stellar Super Bowl performance, and by the looks of his team, he is not ready to slow down just yet. Below is a quote from the RIAA Chairman of his success in reporting these statistics, as well as the Vice Chairman of Interscope Records, who claims they are just getting started.

RIAA Chairman & CEO Mitch Glazier

“These awards recognize Eminem’s unflinching commitment to his craft and the enduring connection he has forged with fans over the last twenty years. With today’s announcement, Eminem becomes the top certified singles artist in our program’s history and adds a rare third Diamond Album to his many creative accomplishments. Congratulations to Eminem and his entire label team who have set the bar higher than ever!”

Steve Berman, Vice Chairman, Interscope Geffen A&M

“Interscope joins Aftermath in congratulating Marshall, Paul, and the entire Shady team on this remarkable achievement. It has been an honor to be part of one of the greatest journeys in the history of recorded music. The most beautiful part of this is it feels like the journey has just begun.”

As a man who has already accomplished so much, does the journey to keep this crown remain most important? Or is it time to focus on building new talent to become just as successful? The Shady Records roster is nice, but they could use some of Shady’s support.
