Hip-Hop During the Election 2020

11.3.20

Election day is finally here. For many, we have waited four, long years for this day to come. I actually remember one of the first things I did when I turned eighteen was going to register to vote. The Town Hall was at the bottom of the parking lot of my high school. So, I went to school on my eighteenth birthday, and before heading home, I walked right over to Town Hall and made sure I signed up to vote. I have voted in every election since. Whether it be for our country, or just my town. I always thought it was important. Before the at home ballots, my dad would come pick me up at college so I could go home and vote for whatever was happening in our town. However, due to certain circumstances, not everyone has the right or the power to vote. On top of that, not everyone believes their vote will make a difference. But this year, is more important than ever. Everyone must use their voice to vote.

I do not think there is any such thing as a perfect candidate. However, we have two, and a decision will be made one way or another. Not voting, is submission to either, and that is not a great feeling. It is okay to not to know who you should vote for, but educating yourself and figuring out what is best for you, is important. Who should lead us out of this pandemic, out of the riots and social injustice, who will lead us to unity and equal rights? The industry of hip-hop this year is using their voices now more than ever, to help you make your choice. Here are some of the industry leads, and how they want you to vote, today.

@Diddy

@Diddy

Diddy shares a video of himself actually filling out his ballot. He says that he will not be voting for Trump, but he was not getting what he needed out of Biden, either. He says, “you know what, I am voting for her. I see Kamala Harris on the ballot, and I am voting for her, and hoping that she can help Joe Biden do something good for us all.”

These are the top two contenders, and it only makes sense to send your vote one way or the other. When you are not getting all that you need from you candidate, look at the others on their team. Not one person can do everything, but with others than believe in their beliefs, and want to help, we can accomplish great things.

@Common

@Common

Common tweets a video live on stage with Jon Legend at a Biden, Harris rally in Philadelphia. The two perform a powerful song as they ask others to go out and vote. Their vote is clear, as well as many others who performed this night in different locations, including Lady Gaga and 2 Chainz.

In Atlanta, 2 Chainz and his family had one of the most memorable days of their lives. Not only did 2 Chainz come on stage and support Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, but he met Obama for the first time, and got to introduce his children to the former President, as well. 2 Chainz mentioned that Biden and Harris will bring something “different” to the table, which is what he is looking for. This lead him into his performance of his own song, I’m Different. He posted several times on his own page from the rally in Atlanta, in support of the Biden, Kamala campaign, as well as his time with his family, meeting the former President, Barack Obama.

Eminem shares a Tweet telling people they only have “one shot” to vote, alluding to one of his greatest hits, Lose Yourself. It just so happens that Joe Biden ended up using this song in one of his “Get-Out-And-Vote” campaigns ads. You can watch the ad on YouTube, which Eminem shared himself, as well. It is clear that Eminem is in support of this campaign, and will likely cast a vote for Biden. I mean, we have heard him curse the current President, and past Republicans in many cases before. So, this is no surprise.

@50Cent

@50Cent

What may be a bit of a surprise, is when the rappers come out supporting Donald Trump. Many would not think so, because of his views on the borders and immigrants, but this is not necessarily true. When it comes to money, in many cases, he is on the wealthy’s side. 50 Cent expressed his displeasure in Biden’s Tax rate plans for NYC, and said he simply could not get down with this plan. He says “I don’t want to be 20 Cent.”

Lil Wayne had a meeting with Donald Trump, and takes a photo which immediately went viral and had many speculating. Wayne says he expressed his concerns during their chat, and Donald promised to come through with these changes. Wayne also praises Trump’s Platinum Plan, which involves prosecuting the Ku Klux Klan and Antifa as terrorist organizations, making Juneteenth a federal holiday and helping to ensure better Black economic prosperity.

@lilpump

@lilpump

I just cannot help but to think that Lil Pump is one of those guys that thought it would be absolutely hilarious to have a reality television star as our President. Now that this has become a reality and a lot of people are mad, he wants to vote him in again. I could be wrong, this is just an ignorant opinion of the Harvard School Drop Out, so I will leave this here for you to decide. Though, Lil Pump did show up for Donald Trump at one of his rallies, where he was introduced as “Lil Pimp.” Comedic, absolutely. But the genuine thoughts of this move is thrown out the door for anyone in the public eye who cannot correctly identify this unique character.

@richthekid

@richthekid

Rich The Kid shares on his page that Donald Trump reached out to him for a meeting. It does seem like Trump is trying his way around the hip-hop world that will listen to him. I am not sure how much Rich The Kid has an influence on the youth, but it seems like he is not biting the bait, either way.

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie shares an emotional post to go out and cast your vote. Initially you may think, why can’t A Boogie vote, isn’t he from Highbridge, New York? But, when you look closely at the letters, you see the portraits of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and many others who lost their lives wrongly and were not given justice. A Boogie asks you to go share your voice, and give any last justice we can to our fallen angles.

@theestallion

@theestallion

Megan Thee Stallion in typical Hot Girl fashion, tells you that the real Hot Girl move this November, is to go out and vote. I can imagine with the influence she has on the hip-hop industry, pop culture world, young ladies in school or business, this should be a message to entice others to go out and vote. It is powerful to use your voice. I would have liked her in the image with a sticker, but it is cute that someone did make this graphic for the important situation.

@iamcardib

@iamcardib

Cardi B voted early, and of course we know she has been on a campaigning trail for quite some time now. She has done multiple interviews with Joe Biden and really questioned about how he will make change in our country. Cardi has received a lot of backlash from the Trump Camp, but this could be because of the threat she does have, while influencing the youth to vote for their campaign competitors. Cardi says, “There was only ten people in line. Please go out and vote.”

@thegirljt

@thegirljt

JT from the City Girls changes her Instagram Biography name to say “City Girls Vote!” This is cute, as similar to the ‘Hot Girl’ lifestyle, the ‘City Girl’ movement, or attitude, actually hit first. So, if you are a city girl or a city boy, you better go out and vote.

@saweetie

@saweetie

Saweetie shares on her page that she went out and voted early, and you still have time!

@joellortiz

Joell Ortiz shares how important this one election is.

@boosienewbckupig

Of course there are the crazies who just want to take over for yourself. If Boosie was president, the White House may become a strip club, and he would finally get his real Instagram back.
