Latto’s LA Leakers Freestyle
10.28.21
Anyone who has been dropping new music lately has been to the studio with the LA Leakers to give their best performing freestyles. They almost always go viral, and is typically a preview to new music. This could be foreshadowing for Latto, who stepped into the booth with the LA Leakers to showcase her skill set, as she slid over Yung L.A’s Ain’t I beat. After her last single, Big Energy, it is more clear than it already was that Latto can do anything. She made sure to tell you herself in this freestyle.
First off, Latto came in with the long braids and a varsity jacket. Females in hip-hop are currently running the game, but many are downplaying them, saying they are over sexualizing themselves and have an unfair say in the game. People may be tuning in for other reasons, if you will. Latto said not today, the looks are there but she comes with the bars first. We knew she meant business with this look.
For those who have not been with Latto since the start, she actually was once a So So Def artist, after winning Season 1 of Jermaine Dupri’s Lifetime rap show, The Rap Game. This relationship did not last longer than the second season, but Latto takes some time in her freestyle to let us know she’s still spending her money she’s made on the show. Not only that, but also calls out Moana Scott, reality television producer, stating she is on a whole bigger level than what is in her pockets.
Latto mentions her AP watch, her Lambo truck, and even lets us know she is a Pescatarian. It’s always fun when you learn a little something about an artist in their rhymes, right? She plays with plenty of catchy bars throughout. Some serious, some funny, some sexual. What had on my on the floor was when she called out other female artists who flex their chains “that their CEO bought.” Recently in Lakeyah’s Breakfast Club interview, she mentioned her boss buying her certain things. Gucci Mane buys all of his new artists chains. But what may have been a bigger direct hit, was that the grand prize on The Rap Game, in addition to joining So So Def, was a chain. Latto is definitely just saying she gets it on her own, but definitely made some people feel some type of way with this bar.
Write, rap, and sing. She continued to talk her talk. Latto put out her Queen of the Souf album, and I swear she had nothing left to prove. We knew she could rap, but then she did a storytelling freestyle about her life. She sang sad songs to get us to feel her. Then she reminded us, she’s still the biggest and the baddest. I already knew she was more versatile than any other female out there. But then, Big Energy comes out, and now she has the pop fans on her team. Now she’s mainstream. Now she can really take over the world. Latto doing this LA Leakers Freestyle? Yeah, there could be new music on the way. But, we need this video to go viral because Latto deserves her credit, and deserves it right now.
