The United States of America has turned over a new leaf, with the inauguration of the new president, Joe Biden. While Donald Trump steps away from office, he announces a list of pardons before he departures. There were two huge names on that list, one Kodak Black, and the second, Lil Wayne. Each dealing with a number of legal issues in the past, as currently cleared to go about their lives.

Most recently, Lil Wayne was arrested and pleaded guilty to charges consisting of carrying a concealed weapon on his private airplane. Now that Donald Trump has pardoned Lil Wayne, he no longer has to worry about, what could have been up to a ten year sentence. Why did Donald Trump pardon Lil Wayne from this act, though this is his his first time dealing with this issue? Well, it appears the two friendly enough to take a photo together in front of an American Flag which went viral. Lil Wayne has supported Donald Trump in the past, so it makes sense that Donald Trump would pardon Lil Wayne, and hope to gain some trust from Wayne’s fans, for the possibility of whatever Trump’s future will bring him.

Because of the photo of Wayne and Trump, he received a lot of backlash, including from his girlfriend. So what did he think of Trump, essentially erasing his problems, for the time being? Well, in typical musician fashion, Lil Wayne dropped a song at midnight to talk about his feelings. The song is titled Ain’t Got Time, and features female singer Fousheé.

I am getting I Feel Like Dying vibes from the song. It does not sound or feeling nearly as creepy, but just because of the content itself. There is a lot to unpack within this song. In the opening verse, Wayne acknowledges being arrested after the FBI searched his private plane, and follows up by saying he then got a plane that was more private. He also pays tribute to Juice WRLD here, which is quite chilling seeing as he lost his life when his private plane was searching by authorities, as well.

Now, when I say I am getting I Feel Like Dying, it stems from the song being so deep, but there are different ways that you could look at it. From a quick radio play, without really paying attention, you think Lil Wayne is saying he would like to move on from living. However, when you listen to the lyrics more closely, or have a different perspective, you can see that he is talking about battling drug addictions. When this song, Ain’t Got Time, hits the chorus, you have to decide what lens you are looking into.

Each verse tells a story. The first first, about him getting arrested, and Juice WRLD’s untimely past. The second, about Wayne leaving his girlfriend for prison. As the chorus goes:

And that just don't sit right
Living like I can't die, codeine in me

I am looking at this like, is he attaching the chorus to the verse he just played, as an extension of his story, leading right into drug habits and feeling invincible? Or, does it not sit right to him, that no matter what reckless things he does with his life, he somehow defeats it all. He was guilty for charges against him, but thanks to his good old friend Donald Trump, he is free from crime. Maybe that does not sit well with him?

With that, I am also getting My Life with Lil Wayne and The Game from 2009.

Dear Lord, you done took so many of my people
I'm just wonderin' why you haven't taken my life
Like what the hell am I doin' right? My life

This song essentially speaks to the idea that Wayne has lost many friends to poor circumstances, that he was also partaking in. It was almost like he was questioning if he was getting away everything because he is famous. With fame, there are people that would look up to the artist, and consider him the best there is. So on one hand, maybe someone is looking out for Wayne, because we need him here. But on that token, it is clear that nothing has changed, and ideally we would have seen a growth by now.

Overall, the sound of the song is interesting. Wayne nowadays is much more of a storyteller than how something particularly sounds and flows. This song, is deep. Though Wayne should feel at ease that he is not currently facing jail time, it does appear there is still a lot on his mind. How does he feel about his pardon? It remains questionable.

Kodak Black was also pardoned by Donald Trump. While Kodak Black is currently behind bars, this means that he should be released soon. I was a bit more concerned about this one, because Kodak just seems to continuously be getting into trouble, so we will see if he can stay out of there, now. I am glad that he is no longer dealing with the guards that were severely mistreating him, however. So far, we have received a Tweet from Kodak thanking Trump. I am sure we will soon have a song from him, as well.
