Mozzy: Get Familiar

Mozzy Survivor’s Guilt 7.22.22

You may know Mozzy as a new signee of Yo Gotti’s label, CMG. Maybe you know him from his collaborative album with YG, Kommunity Service. Hopefully, you know him from beyond all that. But now, it’s his time to take off.

Mozzy is an artist from Sacramento, who has been making music consistently since 2011. He started off independent, created Mozzy Records with his family then signed a distribution deal with Empire. Mozzy released six studio albums under his personal label, plus dozens of mixtapes and collaborative albums. However, at least in my opinion, he was always still underrated.

When it comes to Mozzy’s sound, it’s unique. It’s deep, but he really sings. He sings, but the things he talk about, are also deep. He can tell a real story, in a way that still sounds good. While this may have kept him from the radio becuase of the topic points, he still has songs like So Lonely and Can’t Let You Go, that pay homage to two R&B classics that would be bound to be summer classics if only given the proper playtime.

Personally, I have considered Mozzy one of my favorite artists, and dubbed him the most underrated artist in game, for the past several years. It just felt like he needed the right person to get his music heard on a massive scale, and that would do so much for his career. Now, singing to CMG, it seems like he is on his way to do just that.

Mozzy signed with CMG on February 10th of this year, and has been absolutely on fire since. Days after releasing the announcement of his new team, he released the single Real Ones featuring Roddy Ricch. In May, he released a solo single, and just recently, has been dropping every look we take. On July 1st, Mozzy released new single Lurkin, featuring EST Gee, another CMG label-mate. On July 12th, he released his single Open Arms. This past Friday, Mozzy was all over the twenty-seven song track list from the CMG Compilation album, Gangsta Art, and he is not slowing down.

Mozzy just announced his next album, Survivor’s Guilt, which will release this Friday, July 22nd. With a few of these recently dropped tracks on the album, Mozzy did drop off one new one for us today, and it is a good one. The brand new single In My Face, features 2 Chainz, Saweetie, and the collaborative duo we all know and love, YG. This song has to make it to the hip-hop channels, and should be one for the summer. Everyone on the track plays their rolls so well. YG wiht the classic club chorus, 2 Chainz with the corky punchlines, Saweetie telling all the men who is boss, and Mozzy wrapping them all up together in a bow throughout the single.

Survivor’s Guilt will be Mozzy’s first album releasing under Mozzy Records and CMG. This is a massive moment for the artist, and will be amazing to see where his career goes from here. And when he blows up and starts winning awards like “best new artist” even though he’s been around for a decade - you heard it here first.
