Snoop Dogg via Roaches In My Ashtray

Snoop Dogg has been making music since before I was born, twenty-seven years ago. He remains consistent to this day, with keeping his name alive in the industry. From his television shows, mentoring new kids in the hip-hop game, and literally dropping new music himself. Two weeks ago, Snoop Dogg dropped a song and video for his new single, CEO. Last new music Friday, he released another track and visual titled Roaches In My Ashtray. Still, this is by no means the end of all that Snoop is working on.

On Easter Sunday, the Isley Brothers took part in the Verzuz Battle celebration. The brother’s date back to the 1950s, and surely it has been a few years since we have received a new release from them. Given the holiday, it made sense to bring in artists with such positivity and peaceful vibes. However, when you come to Verzuz, new music is typically a given. What better way to get jiggy than a new song with Snoop Dogg? Likely a younger artist to them, and a way to get us more interested and involved in what this combination would look like. Their song Friends & Family released with an official music video on Monday. The music video replicates a house party, with most of the guests coming through on FaceTime. The vibes are so upbeat and positive, it is a true vibe. Snoop Dogg does come through on FaceTime, he was not in person with the Isley Brothers during filming. I am assuming this is because the man has been busy. Dropping music videos two days a part?! That is insane. Do not think I didn’t notice he was wearing the same shirt in this music video, than he was in a scene from Roaches In My Ashtray. Snoop Dogg is busting out multiple videos per day.

I really was not sure where Snoop Dogg would be going with his new music. He has been getting on tracks with people like NBA Youngboy, doing shows with Martha Stewart, and it was just like, what is Snoop Dogg’s new angle supposed to be? I did not like whatever the Christmas thing he just did was. Just was not my personal style so I wondered what was next. With the release of CEO, it truly seemed like he wanted to rap and show that he still had bars and means of making music. Roaches In My Ashtray, is a bit more interesting. There were glimpses of old Snoop Dogg in there, with the topic of something kind of comedic, but also something that is likely very relatable to some. He rapped his verses, but overall the chorus was finding out who stole his roaches, with a jazzy voice in the background performing the adlibs. Overall, I like the song and think it is definitely one you can cruise to on a chill, summer day.

In the music video, there was a scene where Snoop was wearing a shirt that may have been the same one as the Isley Brother’s music video. It was like a cropped shawl, that was black and white knitted coogi. It was pretty dope. However, the majority of this video, Snoop Dogg wears a buttoned up flannel, showing the massive 4Hunnid logo on the back, representing his good Compton friend, YG. The video basically looks like a car show of all older models with hydraulics and what not. In the video, there are special guest appearances from Ty Dolla $ign, Trinidad James, and of course, Wiz Khalifa, as well as many others. They definitely included some safety protocols in the video, where extras are wearing masks in their cameos.

These three new hits in less than a month from Snoop Dogg make me feel pretty excited for the rest of what is to come from hip-hop this year. It is clear that Snoop has no signs of slowing down, and he is not out here disappointing, either.
